For 8 years in partnership with Three Rivers Community Schools and Michigan’s Meet Up and Eat Up program, the Huss Project has been a distribution site for free summer lunches to all school age kids during the months of the year when students typically don’t have access to free and reduced lunches at school. During summer lunches, we gather to hang out, play kickball, draw sidewalk chalk art, toss around a football, and eat together.
Summer lunches happen on week days from 11:45am to noon when school is not in session, and all kids in the Three Rivers area are welcome to join. There are also distribution sites at Andrews, Hoppin, and Barrows schools. To see the schedule of when lunches are happening, visit our events calendar.
All of our lunches need several adults to help facilitate and pass out lunches. If you’d be interested in volunteering, please fill out our volunteering form.
Gathering together around food in the summer time is a beautiful way to grow community. We enjoy all the friendships we’ve made over the years as we’ve helped increase access to food in our community.
