Our Community Bike Shop

The Huss Project Community Bike Shop is creating access to bikes and the opportunities they provide for our whole community.

What we do

  • We are working to get bikes to everyone in Three Rivers that wants one, regardless of income.
  • We make bikes affordable so people can get around efficiently and conveniently.
  • We teach people to fix bikes so they feel empowered.
  • We offer professional bike maintenance service, used bikes, used bike parts, some new bike parts and gear, volunteering opportunities, guided repair, job training, classes and workshops, and we accept bike donations.

Why we do it

We believe bikes are a simple solution to complex problems.  Bikes connect people to their community, to their own bodies, and to their physical environments.  Bikes heal.  Bikes empower.  Bikes mobilize.  We believe everyone should have access to bikes and the opportunities that they provide.

Used bikes

Our mechanics, when they aren’t helping people fix their bikes, spend some of their time fixing up used bikes.  We keep these bikes affordable, and strive to offer bikes from as low as $15 in the case of some department-store fix-ups to $200 or $300 for the nicest bikes we refurbish.

Shop time by suggested donation

While we make the majority of our income by selling used bikes and parts, as well as some new items like lights and helmets, we do ask that people who come to do work in the shop make donations for the use of the space and tools, and for the generous help of our mechanics.  A suggested donation of $5/hour for use of the space and tools or $20/hr for the help of one of our mechanics is what we believe to be fair.  Larger donations are encouraged when possible and nobody is ever turned away for lack of funds.
