The Indian Removal Act

Signed into effect by president Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, this legislation offered lands west of the Mississippi to Indigenous peoples, in exchange for lands already within US states borders. This resulted in the Trail of Tears, and set a precedent for further aggressive land seizures and relocation efforts, such as the Trail of Death.
