A grand time was had by a record over 900 attendees at Huss Future Festival on Saturday, July 22! From the halls of the rummage sale to the chairs in the shade of the trees, nearly every corner of the Huss Project was abuzz with activity throughout the day. The sun came out from behind the rain-threatening clouds in the morning, and we had clear skies from there on out!
A delightful mix of tunes from the music stage set the tone for the bustling outdoor festivities, with The Brass Rail from Kalamazoo, gospel songs, acoustic blues, and some stomp-clapping Americana. Visitors shopped al fresco at the farmers market, where produce had been donated by generous local farmers. Families with children found opportunities for all sorts of fun in the backyard: the art tent and Construction Junction stayed busy with crafts and woodworking all day, while the apple barrel train gave rides around the garden to smaller attendees. Local organizations filled out the Community Carnival with games for kids while spreading the word about their good work in St. Joseph County. We partnered again with the Three Rivers Area Faith Community for the Back to School Celebration, which handed out over 370 backpacks filled with school supplies to children aged elementary through high school. Frankie’s By the Tracks again donated a slice of pizza to accompany each backpack! Speaking of food, attendees enjoyed hot dogs from Weenie Kings, farm-fresh veggie bowls from the farmers market, delicious treats from the bake sale, and iced coffee from the Speaking Stone Café.
Inside the building was just as busy: artists chatted with potential buyers over tables of handmade art, crafts, jewelry, and more. The second-annual art gallery graced the hallway with original paintings, photography, and mixed media pieces from local artists and neighborhood kids. Many visitors enjoyed the photo booth, complete with fun props! And of course, wheeling and dealing happened all day at the well-stocked rummage sale.
Topped with a three-song dance party, it was certainly a day to celebrate: we raised almost $5,000! More than that, though, we love that Future Festival is a day to make connections, build relationships, and celebrate with the community of Three Rivers. We’re already looking forward to next year!
