The Fur Trade

The Fur Trade was an important aspect of Native and European interactions during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It drove the development of European settlements, trade posts, and forts, provided an important arena of cultural exchange between European and Native peoples, introduced deadly European diseases into Native communities, and severely disrupted the ecological systems in the Great Lakes region.
