The Huss Project Farmer’s Market came into existence in 2020 and has been providing our neighbors access to local food, resources, and playful inspiration for five seasons and counting! Each Saturday morning our market transforms into a joyful (and delicious!) hub of activity from June through September as we connect our neighbors to good food, local art and music, outdoor activities, and more.
Our market has quickly become a focal point for community-building in our city, and we rely on the financial support of individuals and businesses to improve, promote, and sustain our current programming. Your decision to sponsor the Huss Project Farmer’s Market will showcase your company’s commitment to fostering community connections, supporting local farms and food businesses, increasing food security, and reducing food waste. For example, in 2024 we:
- Welcomed over 2,500 people to our market throughout the season!
- Totalled over $40,000 in gross sales at the farmer’s market, which directly supports our producer and vendor community members.
- Featured 16 vendors at 19 markets—including four Second Saturday markets with live music, Musical Storybooks by the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, food trucks, cooking demonstrations, and more.
- Channeled all tips received from our weekly market into Huss Project Fresh Food Cards (over $2,500), which we then distributed to our neighbors at a summer Fresh Food Initiative.
- Distributed 500 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to any child in need during our annual Back to School Celebration at the August Second Saturday market. Our Community Carnival at Back to School connected neighbors with resources from over 15 community organizations.
- Distributed free boxes of food to over 7,200 of our neighbors through our Fresh Food Initiative (FFI) with the South Michigan Food Bank.
- Provided 2,300 pounds of food from local farms (including ours!) through weekly vegetable distributions and drop-offs to local food banks.
Every week throughout the summer months, the Huss Project accomplishes something extraordinary and, these days, rare: community connection. Your decision to sponsor our market season will have a ripple effect as each dollar amount makes it possible for us to continue hosting community events and special activities all year long. Sponsorship funds will also be crucial in securing the staff required for those events.
Becoming a donor for our Farmer’s Market is an opportunity for your organization to connect with our vibrant community in a unique and impactful way. Together, we’re creating a little pocket of beauty every week during the market season, and we can’t wait to see what we can continue to build together!
