We are very pleased to announce that, through a partnership with Three Rivers Community Schools, there will be FREE summer lunches for kids at the Huss Project. Wow!
“WHEN?” you ask. Lunches will be distributed Monday through Thursday from noon-12:15, beginning next Monday on June 17 and ending August 8 (no lunches the week of July 4).
“OKAY! WHERE?” At 1008 8th Street in Three Rivers–the old Huss School on the corner of 8th and Broadway. Lunch will be served outside, so it may be cancelled in the case of inclement weather.
“WHAT?” The bag lunches will include a bread, protein, milk, fruit and a vegetable (or second fruit of another variety). According to the rules of the program, all food has to be consumed on the property or it has to be discarded, so plan to have a seat, relax and enjoy the great outdoors for a little bit. Depending on the harvest, there may also be fresh veggies available out of the Huss Project garden.
“AND WHOM?” Any school-aged child, from anywhere!
“BUT WHY?” Because making sure our kids have enough to eat is a very good thing. Other sites have hosted this program over the past several years and we are glad to be a site for 2013. And as long as we’ve already covered all five W’s…
“HOW?” Three Rivers Community Schools applies for a grant to run this program. And for those concerned about waste, we’re planning a great system for sharing, composting and recycling as much as possible!
