Underground Supper Club at Florence

Florence Underground Supper Club

Florence Underground Supper Club

It was truly ‘underground’ at this Sunday’s Underground Supper Club at Florence Church of the Brethren Mennonite, where soft lighting and cheery bunting transformed the basement level of the church into the “Comfort Food Café”. At the second Supper Club fundraiser of its kind, steaming dishes prepared by the *cino intentional community and passed family-style around the tables filled the plates of almost 50 people. On the menu: two varieties of macaroni and cheese, a vegetarian and gluten-free shepherd’s pie, and meatloaf, along with a fresh salad, balsamic-glazed onions, and delicious pies and cookies.

We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the Florence congregation, as they gave enough money for twelve bricks for our ongoing Brick Campaign – WOW! A ‘noisy offering’ was also taken during the service, which gave people the chance to jingle their loose change into cooking pans. And as there was no shortage of food, our friends at Florence happily gave extra donations to take leftovers home.

We all at *cino really enjoy putting on these events, as much for the good food and relationship-building as for the financial support, every penny of which will go towards the Huss Project. If you’d like to receive an invitation to the next Underground Supper Club, or if you’d like your church to host a noisy offering for the Brick Campaign, please contact us!
